I have entered it, but will just continue with the mad distances I am doing at the moment without change... my mum & step-father are going to continue to need assistance for as long as I can manage it, however twice a week is as much as I can manage on top of everything else (college twice a week and physio once a week). My step-father is now out of hospital and slightly mobile but has to go back in once a day every day for IV antibiotics. I've just done 11 consecutive day's cycling and with my Addison's it is a touch too much at times. I had been considering joining the local club, but at the moment, I can't see how I have enough hours in the day! I'm busier now than when I had a job  which at some point I am going to need to consider sorting out (but not until my MRI scan results come through).
Makes me tired just reading about it. Hope everything is ok with your scan and your folks keep a bit better.
I know what you mean about a job. I'm scraping by on a drastically reduced pension with leaving my job early. I half keep an eye out for something local. Even 10 - 15 hours a week would just help eke things out a bit.

Back on the topic of rest days, I think we are back to strong winds tomorrow again which I hate so I may well start May off with a rest day!

In april I did 450 miles. I am going for the strava challenge, my aim is for 500 miles, but more or less working every day in may(be mad to turn overtime down) so will have a bit extra to spend on the bike in june.
I will cycle to work the longer way round and do a few extra miles on the way home.
That is what Chris on here does too. It's amazing how the miles add up when you are commuting. At least you have the incentive to have to get to work rather than just going out for a leisure ride when it is easier to not bother.

oh **** I hope not. I have a 25 miles round trip to the physio and it is always a headwind as it is.... At least in Scotland I know the glen's funnel the wind, here the plains just allow the thing to batter you around.
Finger's cross on the MRI - otherwise May's targets are out almost as soon as I have started it - right I have to go... it is time to cycle 7.5 miles or so to Pilates which starts at 8pm only I am not ready yet because I have only been home 45 mins since getting back from my mum's! (now to balance a pilates mat on the back of my road bike - great way of ensuring motorists don't cut you up - they can't for the life of them work out what it is! )

Its seems that not many noob miles being posted today.
So...
Who is having a couple of rest days before the May Massive (strava challenge) and how far do you think you'll get in May?

I am aiming for at least 500km

My goal for May is 55 hours, with a target of 15 hours off road included. I agree with Mo, the mile counting can be motivating but also numbs the brain after a while. I'm planning one hundred miler and one other 100km+ for the month... The rest of the time will be made up of commuting and local loops. I've also set a goal to have a least one day off a week. I often ride everyday (commute 6 days a week, lesuire/training ride Sunday) and although my commute is only a 12mile round trip, it seems to take it's toll all the same.
I only signed up the May Massive because everyone else did ;) I shall be motivating my miles by setting a goal to cycle somewhere new to me at least twice a week.

I've got uni exams coming up at the start of June, and I have rowing commitments, so I'm not sure how much I'm going to be able to get out in May, which is annoying. I did 60 miles today, and I'll have to see what time I get in the coming weeks. I don't want to enter the challenge knowing I can't really give it a lot, I think I'd just disappoint myself!

Booked in for a 400 mid May so probably looking at around 1000km for the month, knee and weather permitting (not holding out much hope)

It is a great way to build the mileage. I did 21 days of commuting in April which direct to and from work would be circa 210 miles. I actual did 1,084 miles commuting in April, with my pleasure rides my total for the month was 1,284 miles. Yes my arse is sore!

For May, I am aiming for 900 miles for the month

As long as I breathe, I attack.
A day of rest is saturday when i look after the kids while the wife is at work and do jobs round the house.otherwise assuming theirs no snow and i do not come down with the lurgy again i will be aiming for ...
100 miles a week commuting
50-60 miles on a sunday , realistically i will probably get 2 of those in given aforementioned wife and kids
total i will aim for
500 + miles i guess for may., i would hope for 600 + miles.
Sorry my garmin is set for miles so i need my fingers.. carry 1 , add 4 , drop tea...
800- 1000 km will be the distance i should do comfortably.

Well done, I wouldn't be able to fit that amount of miles into a month, my mileage for April was 418, that was very close to the most I could have done in the time available.

All commuting apart from only 2 pleasure rides at 50 miles total.
Jan 336 miles
Feb 583 miles
Mar 440 miles
Apr 520 miles
May ? ? Would like around 600 I guess, start as I mean to go on for the month with a 64 mile round commute tomorrow.

As far as days of rest go, I always feel better if I have 2 consecutive days off the bike, one day off and it doesn't seem to make much difference to me. Three days off it and I start to remember what a nice comfy car seat feels like again....

Same here, I had planned on sneaking 20 miles in after gym with mate...that's been cancelled to meet some other mates after work for a beer/watching football.

Well a steady ride out tonight just to loosen off the legs a bit. New rear brake blocks fitted, bike nice and clean.
What have I let myself in for !!!

Are you entering May's Strava Challenge Emma or is this a personal target? On one hand, I find the challenges can make you a bit obsessive about getting miles in but on the other hand, they can be an incentive to get out too. Suppose I should enter this one and just see how it goes, after saying I wasn't going to bother with them again!
I think you and I both need to have a formal review of our ticker mileage/distance. We both seem to be rather too well ahead of schedule!
Any thoughts on a realistic mileage for the year? Hard to know for me because this will be the first year back after the world tour and I have no idea what I really expect to do (other than potentially get around to returning to miles instead of kilometers....)

PS - I think I may need to include Supersuperleeds in that review as well looking at how close to completion his green bar is... (goes back to check 'his' part...)

Thanks, I don't think it will be repeated, cycling wise it was pretty much a perfect month for me
