Dogging was originally called Catting, but the Cats Protection League sued and the name was duly changed.

In America, hamstering is popular with the slebs.

"Fogging" is a term used for sexual activities with male OAPs, after Foggy from Last of the Summer Wine.

"Compoing" is a term I unfortunately cannot define in polite(ish) society on CycleChat.

"Clegging" is a term used for selling your soul to the highest bidder as in "What first attracted you to the billionaire Mark Zuckerberg, Mr Clegg?"

"Batting" originally referred to sexual activity with female OAPs, after Nora Batty. It's since been overtaken by it's use to describe bestial acts with flying mammals, implicated in the origins of the COVID pandemic.

The character of Foggy Dewhurst was inspired by our very own @Accy cyclist . Smartly turned out, prone to misadventures and mishaps, easily led by his reprobate chums.

However, in order to make the character believeble the writers had to tone down incidents involving gas boilers, valve caps, or Dirty Gerty from number 30 and her son. They were too improbable and outrageous for such a light comedy.

The village of Hebden, (originally in Lancashire, but relocated in 1957) was famous for the manufacture of hockey balls. Before the advent of face protection for hockey goalkeepers, it was not uncommon for a player’s teeth to be knocked out during even a relatively friendly match.

The Hebden Bridge is a structure used in dentistry to hold false teeth in place if they have been knocked out. It was developed by William Arrol, who went on to build a larger version of the same structure which is know known as the Forth Bridge.
