I started getting stairlift / funeral insurance / assisted living junk mail when I was in my mid-20s. It was my own fault though - I'd signed up for something with the Daily Telegraph (think it might have been fantasy football) and forgot to tick the box to say don't pass on my details to third-parties. I guess that the readership of that paper is meant to have an average age of 60+, so they just assumed I was one of them as I hadn't put down my DOB.

I'm only 51 and if someone is daft enough to advertise a discount for "pensioners" instead of OAP's then I'm in there like a rat up the drainpipe. Thats how I got the half price colonic irrigation and sport bra.

Then again: Saga as an institution/marketing organisation/publication might be a light read but their offers to 'the elderly' have to be looked at closely. Be under no illusion that the 'special offers' for older people are not always such brilliant value as you might imagine.
A few years ago my van insurance was going up and so I shopped around. Saga were offering 'Special rates for those over 50'

Damn right they were special....three times what my existing insurance was.

I can't wait to be old and get my bus pass.
Saves me a fortune on trips into town. I have to drive six mornings a week as I need my car at work but I've got most of the day free so I'm not time dependent.

Considering how big businesses can legally avoid pay tax I wouldn't have the slightest problem with claiming coffin dodger discounts.

Aye, when I turned 50 and finally got a car insurance quote from them they were grossly uncompetitive.

Me too! I've tried in the past to get one due to my various disabilities, but they don't count even though they are debilitating to me. I 'only' have another 6 and 3 quarter years to go,then i can claim an OAP one. What does make me cringe is when folk slightly older than me assume i have a bus pass,i suppose because they think i'm their age. Being in your late 50's isn't good. Too old to do the things you once could, but not old enough to get any benefits of being old(ish).
