I agree, but I don't think Halfords do dibs, which is why I recommend @mybike makes an early morning trip to secure. And answering another (@DCLane and @Tin Pot ) element in thread above, I think that you could match the general quality that Halfords put on the bike with a £50 front wheel (eg R501 or RS010), £20 brake calipers (105 5700 at CRC) and a £12 saddle. Add in a tyre and tube too at (say) £18, and you'd be there. Extra for the wrapping paper mind and new owner's pedals.

I went down this morning, it had gone - saves me the effort. And now I'll concentrate on what I really want. ^_^

Several years ago, I had a similar approach to buying bike. I reflected on this and had a long conversation with my female friends. Then I came to the following decision.

We must always approach this with the same mentality that women buy shoes.
It does not appeal to any rational thought process. Just buy.
