Have you got one of those magnetic pick up tools.
I found mine useful when the same thing happened to me last week.

Just keep up the good work of loosing weight, as you have now got a new incentive, shed some more pounds, and come Xmas, you will be able to crawl down your steerer tube to recover it.

Leave it - you won't get it out if no hole in the bottom.

Yes. Leave it, or alternatively, try a length of studding of the same pitch as your top bolt and screw it into the lonely object at the bottom of your forks and lift it out.

If you leave it in, dump a bit of sticky stuff in there - you don't want to get a mystery rattling noise as you're climbing Ventoux... the forum will go into meltdown!

only option i can think of is a bit of m8 stud or even m10 depending on the size of the thread as Aperitif said above.

no point in trying the stud methods mentioned. it's designed to go in but not be pulled out, that's it's job. carbon fibre steerer?

the only way, that i can think of, is to use a stiff wire (coat hanger?) to try and 'flip' it over and then it will come out (upside down). if it's a carbon steerer if at any time it feels like it's snagging tight, start again, carbon is strong but is easily damaged.

i've used this method before, but only on alloy and steel mtb forks.

hope that helps.
