Bit of a strange request, but I'm after a pair of road shoes but without the mesh as I want to use them with thermal socks for the winter months..
Two reasons..
One .. its aways handy to have a spare pair of shoes.
Two.. overshoes are dear and I'm not sure on the fitting of overshoes, they look awkward..

Cheers.

Look at cheap mountain bike shoes, Gaffer tape the mesh on a cheap pair of shoes, or wear overshoes. They're really not that hard to get right and cheaper than shoes, plus you can take them off if conditions change.

I doubt there are any manufacturers bothering to make a cheap meshless road shoe, no one wants to buy them. You can get a classic styles leather shoe but these are usually pricey, much more pricey than a £20 pair of neoprene overshoes you consider dear. Factor in the cost of a new set of cleats at 20 odd quid.

I put a pair of latex gloves on under my regular gloves once, thinking they'd block the wind out. It was torture. My hands got slightly sweaty as they do, and the freezing wind cooled this down to unimaginable temperatures against my skin. Don't let the plastic touch bare skin whatever you do.

as above, gaffer tape your road shoes around the front 1/3 of the shoes. especially the meshed areas. don't forget the ones underneath. then overshoes. problem solved

What size are you? I have a pair that someone on here sent me that were too large. You can have them for free.

I just slap the gaffa liberally over my summer MTB shoes and put overshoes over the top, job done.

My Sidi Pro 5s are size 44 and most others like Shimano and Northface all fit well with size 44..
So if they are 44s I would be interested so let me know..

I'll check when I get home, feel free to give me a virtual kick up the bum if I don't reply by tomorrow.

Overshoes are not that expensive.

I have the Endura Neoprene ones and they are great. On a very cold and wet day I'll combine them with a pair of Seal Skinz Socks. The Seal Skinz socks on the other hand are a little on the dear side but worth it in my opinion. They keep my feet warm and dry and as long as my feet and hands are warm I'm a happy cyclist.

I only own one pair of the Seal Skinz socks but am looking to get another pair once I have got Christmas and the kids presents out the way. Now that's one pair of socks I wouldn't mind getting for Xmas! Hint Hint!

This doesn't make sense - you want to buy a new pair of shoes because overshoes are too dear..??

Worse than that, he wears Sidis at the moment, but is worried about the cost of overshoes!
Forget the cost of overshoes but I dont want to ruin a good pair of road shoes riding in the winter months.. thats why a second pair of shoes perhaps even mtb shoes would be better in the winter months and to be honest Ive never heard of overshoe's till now...
