Say hello to a computer nerd and cyclist from Belfast, Northern Ireland ;)

I've got back into cycling last year after more than ten years away and now I'm doing a 18-20 mile round trip (depending on route) commute into Belfast city centre 3 or 4 days a week and longer rides at the weekend. I've entered a couple of NI sportives later in 2009 and have been putting in the road miles to prepare for these, but I did a lot of MTB in the past and I hope to get my old off roader back into working order soon too.

I've got a Commencal Normal Disc 2008 that I've converted for commuting duties by fitting rigid forks and slicks and I've also recently accquired a BeOne Storm 1.0 2008 road bike for the weekend workouts. For kickin' it offroad old skool, I've a 1995 GT Zaskar LE restoration project in the works. And clicking on those links will take you to my cycling blog, Rain Miles Count Double.

I've got some questions so I'll lurk around for a while and see where's best to post them. I might have some answers too and I'll help where I can.

Looking forward to some cycle chat with you all ;)

Hi, welcome. You didn't buy my Dura Ace LOOK Pedals off Ebay last weekend did ya? And I bet you got your Commy from Steve at Real Cycles in NI? I've a Commencal 5.5 sat in the garage, no use for it recently as I've been back on the road...

Nope, but I could use some  Still got the toe-clipped stock pedals on the BeOne.

Where else? I had a 1992 DB Ascent that snapped across the seat tube one Friday afternoon, so I needed a work bike in a hurry and I'd gone to my mate's house to pick up an old Specialized frame he had so I could do it up. We decided to head to a random bike shop to get some parts and ended up chatting with Steve for about an hour ... turned out it was the last day of a 50% off clearance sale and I picked up the Normal for £250!

I've noticed the cycle police in Belfast use Commencals as well. I wonder if they get them from Real Cycles too? If so, why do they take them to Bike Dock to get them serviced?

Hello from North Wales. Excellent forum with loads of advice that helped me eventually purchase a Specialised Allez Elite on a cycle to work deal. Thank you

Hello and welcome.

For advice about LEJOG give the Touring and Expedition section of the forum a try.

Hi Jayne,

You might want to try our classified section - Wanted - for the part you need.

And welcome to CC - hope you have fun.

Cheers,
Shaun :becool:

Hi Shaun & everyone!
Do you ever cycle in trousers and wish you had cycle clips????
Just cut the toe off any old sock and use it as a tube to cover your ankle and lower calf, - no more oil on trousers!
Old cots make excellent cycle racks with the minimum of work. My mothercare one keeps 5 bikes neat and tidy and immediately available!
