Hello all. This is my first post. I joined up because I've been researching ahead of my first long distance cycle trip next week. I think negotiating the trip from east to west London at the very start will be the hardest part!

Hello Pete and welcome to Cycle Chat.
Tell us more about this ride you are undertaking.

It's between Bristol and Reading, following National Route 4, over the course of three days. I'll take a train from Paddington to Bristol and cycle eastwards from there, stopping a couple of times along the way. I have two of the pocket-sized cycling maps showing the route, and I've added lots of notes of my own, especially for where the route leaves the Kennet & Avon Canal.

I supposed the trickiest bit is getting from East London to Paddington via London Overground to Barking, and Hammersmith & City line Underground. There's nowhere to stand with a bike on those Tube trains that won't be in the way, and I'll be travelling as soon as I can after the end of the rush hour restrictions.

Returnee to cycling from cricket and rugby, hoping to pick up some some tips and good practice, certainly the folks on the beginners thread have been very helpful so far.

Hello - this is my first post here, having just discovered this forum only last Friday, although I have been posting on Bike Radar for quite some time. I have been cycling for many years - touring and for fun, and over many thousands of miles. By way of further introduction I am a magazine writer and photographer and for the past eight months have been writing and photographing for my own cycling website on the side (www.my-bicycle-and-i.co.uk) I am an American-born Australian who now lives (and rides) in Sussex when not travelling on assignment.

Hi..my name's Alister and I'm 39. Last week was my first time on a racing bike since I was 11 years old ! and went out with a mate on his cannondale caad 8 sora and covered 20 miles at a 12.9 mph average.Today we done the same distance and got an average of 15.0 mph. The reason for starting to ride is because I want to get into triathlons with the ultimate goal of doing an ironman! I now need to get myself a bike so my mate can use his cannondale and not his old steel tourer:laugh:

Hi There, I'm far from new, but here I am. I currently ride a 27 year old Raliegh Raven which i bought from new when I got my first job. With a few brake pads (One new cable which snapped right in the middle of Wolverhampton Ring Road - ouch!!) and a few tyres it's still going strong. I thinking of upgrading to maybe a Ridgeback Voyage to bring me into the 21st century.

Hello good people of cycle-chat ^_^ My name is Gideon, I'm a 42 year old dad who commutes approx 14 miles a day to and from work (ironically in the car business) im Shropshire based and believe its an undiscovered gem. I have been commuting for around two years now along a scary 'A' road called the A49 (whitchurch-shrewsbury), and although truckers get bad press from the cycling community i have only experienced patience and good road manners from the truck driving fraternity, car drivers on the otherhand can give you a scare (especially when they are on-coming and choose to overtake another vehicle :cursing: *insert hand gestures here*)....I cycle in all seasons and all weathers night and day although i do ask myself why when its thick fog outside. I have three bikes in my stable, an old Elswick green rusty 5 speed flat bar tourer (which i may restore), A carrera race ltd mountain bike for snow laiden days, and finnaly an old Giant Peleton 8400 sport i bought second hand and absolutely love!!
I have been flicking through your forum for about 2 weeks now and have enjoyed reading the articles on here so inevitably i now find myself becoming a member.

Thank you for reading

Gid

Hello!!!!!!

My names pete, Just pulled out the old bike from the shed. It has been sat there rusting for about 5 years, Before that it was sat in someone else's shed for god know how long. After 2 cans of WD40 and 2 hours of bending, twisting and knocking, I got the little beauty alive and kicking, Took it for a spin over some nice country lanes and I love it!!! Carnt wait to bust out some serious rides this weekend!!!!!!!!!
