New seatpost and saddle

My new bike
attachment.php

has been putting smile on my face since I've got it. I love it and it is a million mile jump from the hybrid I was riding before (and still do on bad weather days).

My birthday is in May and I will shortly be getting asked what I want. So, not wanting to disappoint ;) I have been thinking about upgrades for the bike.

First on the list will be a new cassette. The 11-23 is a little to harsh for me. I didn't find it too bad on a recent CC ride, but I just felt if I had one more gear I would be happier. Thus I'll be asking for a 12-25.

Second on the list would be a carbon seat post. The roads around these parts are a little rough so the extra damping that carbon (aparently) affords would be nice. So does anyone have suggestions of good carbon seat posts in the £50 ish price range?

Finally the only other thing that I would be interested in changing is the saddle. At the moment I have a Selle Royal viper saddle which is pretty basic and has gel (which I know wouldn't be great for longer rides). What would be a decent upgrade for this around the £50 mark?

to be honest you'd be better off putting that cash towards painting the fence, a light ochre would be my choice.

(lovely bike by the way)

;) Aye the wife has been wanting to sort that fence for a while. Not sure I'd want that for my birthday though!

I can vouch for the 12-25 cassette. I run it on a 50/36 compact and it is high enough for the steep decents and low enough for the hills in my neck of the woods.

Nice bike by the way

Ta.

It is a 50/34 compact I have so yes I think the 12-25 should do the trick. What amazes me is that I find it much easier to grind my way up the hills on the Racelight than I did on the hybrid. There is a big difference in weight of course, but I'm not sure that is the only reason....

more efficient riding position, hard to say but is that saddle level?

It has a very slight tilt down at he front. The LBS helped with position, although I do feel that I slide forward a little, so I had considered tilting it back a little...

Dead level for me and I use a spirit level to make sure. The seat that I have found works for me is the specialized toupe however at £ 80 a throw new is a little out of your budget range. However these can also be picked up little used second hand for about £ 40 on e bay which is where I got my last one from. Worth getting you sit bones measured on an assometer at a specialized dealer first as they are size specific.

Seriously though there are some much, much nicer bikes on here than mine!

Actually I put the bike picture up so that people would make suggestions that would suit the level of the bike, i.e. nice but not super nice!

What?????????? by my calcs that gives something around 39 inches through to about 117. I would guess that the 39 would come in a lot more useful than the 117. Personally I'd want something closer to a 30 inch as my back up gear.
