New Front Light, please

I think I prefer using torches as they're quite sturdy and robust and harder to shine in your face by accident. Also more versatile. I was watching a video about the magic shine and apparently some models flash briefly when you plug them in. I can see that catching me off guard on occasion.

I think one of those 900 or 1200 lumen is quite probably the right choice for night time off-roading (which I don't do - but imagine you'd want masses of light for).

FWIW I have ended up with a choice of lights, and "pick 'n mix" according to how long I plan to be out on the road in low light.

No plan to be out after dark, but "just in case" Smart 35 Lux
All day ride with possible last hour in the dusk/dark Hope 1
All day ride with definite last hour or two in the dusk/dark Hope 1 + Smart 35 Lux as back-up
More than two hours in the dark: Dynohubbed wheel and Philips SafeRide Dynamo light (and either Hope or Smart as back up)

The Philips BTW is a great little light - better than the Cyo according to reviews, but let down by a crappy mounting bracket and poor non-existent customer service from manufacturer - I have ended up modyfing a B&M bracket to fit.

What is with that wire and and batterie pack ? Do you have to have them mounted on your bike ? I don't fancy a wire sticking out of a lamp on my handle bars
You put the light on your handle bars and the mount the battery on either the stem or the frame. The battery and light is separate to keep the light unit small and light.

Just an update -

I ordered the light from Deal Extreme on 5th August and yesterday got a mail to say it had been shipped.
7-10 days shipping...

buy soon if you're thinking about it, before it gets dark!

apologies to the OP for the hijack, but there are many threads about lights in these darkening days!
Interested in the MS808 from dealextreme, but have a question for those who have one if someone would be so kind - how long is the cable? It would be great to have the battery in my saddle-pack and route the cable along my TT to the unit on the bars!

Many thanks, B

It's not that long.
