As long as I breathe, I attack.
Good entry level bikes assuming you got it at the "sale " price of under £300 which is about right for the spec, i have a virtuoso as a winter /commuter bike that is still going strong .Used it today as the other bike has no mudguards and it saved me from getting a nice stripe up my ass.

And congrats on the bike and the birthday !

I've had my Carrera bike from Halfords for well over a year and very happy with it, not had any problems with it.
a couple of small upgrades I've done is swap the pedals to spd-sl pedals and swapped the tyres over (nothing wrong with the original tyres, but they had a few cuts in them from glass picked up off the road)
Hope you enjoy the bike

Nice. Hope you enjoy it.

The majority of bikes come with pedals (unless you buy at the higher end). Whilst they get you going most are not great quality and is always one of the first things I change. Thankfully my last bike came with none saving me the bother of taking them off and finding a bin

I've been considering the Carrera Zelos too, at the moment it looks like the perfect lowest-price road bike.

Any reason why you went for the Zelos over a Triban 3?

Carrera bikes are good value. I got mine last August as a stop gap after I had a bike stolen thinking to get something better in the Spring.
I've grown quite fond of it now and will not be considering getting anything else.
It's been no trouble at all and rides very well.
Mine came with SPD pedals. I upgraded the tires which made quite a difference and I changed the saddle to a Charge Spoon which proved very comfortable.
I changed the paintwork a bit to suit my tastes. So overall I'm very pleased with it.
Mine's the Carrera 'Vanquish.

I also bought the Zelos. Just done my first commute on it and I absolutely love the thing! I got it in black and blue though lol
The pedals it comes with are awful though aren't they?

I've had my Zelos now since May, commuting on it daily. It's a great bike, personally I like the toe clips, but then I've been riding with toe clips for over 20 years. The brifters on mine had an annoying rattle and halfords replaced them, but even before I left the store we found the replacements had the same rattle, so halfords upgraded them for free.

yeah that's first on my list come pay day, get some clip in pedals.
My right shifter rattles also, I'll mention it when I take it in to get that free 6 week service they do and see what happens!

Mind you, I did threaten to reject the bike and ask for a refund as "even my 18yo Raleigh didn't rattle"
