Riding it won't do it much good. Best to avoid needing a new wheel  it should be a quick job for them, I had a slightly untrue wheel sorted last week at my LBS, took less than an hour and cost me a tenner  I should think Evans will sort as part of the free check

Keep an eye on it though, what bike is it and how much do you weigh?

Cheeky! That's the reason I got the bike.

I'm 104kg so not grossly overweight although I did read in my instruction manual that my bike had a weight limit of 100kg.

I am tempted to just phone my LBS tomorrow and ask them them if they could do it.

I know I may sound daft and I don't want to go on a rant but I didn't get a good feeling from Evans when I picked the bike and would be using the free check only because it's free. But they might change my mind if they can sort this but I'm not hopeful.

I wasn't being cheeky, I'm no lightweight...but it could be the reason why the wheel has gone out of true. Avoid big holes and no bunny hopping off kerbs

I added in a wee smiley but it never worked to convey the cheekiness of the cheeky.

I try to avoid kerbs but some potholes just jump out at you. But hopefully it's just the fact that it's a new bike as @Smokin Joe says.

UPDATE:

Spent most of my day trying to get through to the shop I bought the bike from with no answer. But the mechanic at my LBS was happy to take a look and save me a trek into Glasgow.

Diagnosis: "wheel's farked mate!"

Bugger!

Advised me to get onto the shop that sold me the bike to try and get a replacement but didn't seem hopeful. Also gave me a subtle warning about the big chains, which is duly noted.

Eventually spoke to a fella who advised me to bring it in if I'm nearby.

I'm getting exasperated by the whole thing now. But I'm wondering what my chances of a replacement wheel are.

Anyone had a similar problem?

If the wheel is merely out of true then it certainly isn't farked. Unless the mechanic spotted some damage any competent techy will be able to sort it.

He said that because of the severity of the buckle and that the spokes are loose that I would need a new wheel. That's the reason I went to him. He also mentioned that one brake pad is more worn than the other - surely that just means I get new brake pads. I'm out a walk with the dog, I'll maybe post some photos later to illustrate the problem.

I'm just disappointed that my new bike has problems already and it's just disheartening.

He's talking bollocks.

Unless the rim is damaged the wheel can be trued.

I can't see any obvious damage, like any chips or bent areas on the rim.

Funnily enough, my rear wheel punctured on the walk round to the bike shop so I've had the wheel off and apart from the issue of being untrue? De-trued?, the wheel looks fine, again to my inexperienced eye.

Sounds like he perhaps wants to sell you a new wheel.

in extreme cases you may need to delace the wheel and straighten the rim. That would almost certainly be cost prohibitive on a factory wheel compared to simply replacing it with a similar quality wheel. if the wheel has loose spokes then there's a chance that sorting them will resolve the issue.

Perhaps you're right. I think I will need new wheels to support all 16st of me.

So I went to Evans where I got the bike. I had myself all psyched up for a fight and arguing my case but the guy couldn't have been nicer. They weren't able to fit me in for my 6 week check today but they re-trued the wheel no problem. By the time I had a coffee (and cake of course) job was done. Perhaps first impressions aren't always right. However, I will follow @raleighnut's advice of sticking a note on the handlebars come 6 week check.

I even left with a spare tube and some new tire levers. Surely I'm not the only one who can't resist a wee goodie or two every time they visit a bike shop?

I'm heavier than you and my stock RS10's cope with me on top. I try not to crash about on them but there's always the unseen on the road these days.

Great that Evans sorted you out; I'm quite certain you're not the only one who comes out of a bike shop with a few nik-naks

UPDATE:

I'm one happy guy tonight.

So after my issues with my rear wheel a couple of weeks ago, my bike finally went in for it's 6 week service and the bike shop done a stellar job. They trued the rear wheel and sorted the dish too. I did ask them to look at the front brakes as they were lacking real stopping power but they left them as there was plenty pad left.

But that just meant that I got to do a wee bit of tinkering as I fitted replacement pads for the cheap set that the bike came with.

So it goes, cruises and stops like a bugger.

Just time to get the engine running better now...

:whistle: :cheers::okay:
