New bike damaged when taken out of the box

And I would personally put it all in writing and not rely on the phone calls (sorry @vickster ) because retailers can have a remarkable knack of saying that a phone call didn't actually take place even if you know it did. A traceable email on the other hand...

Definitely. Get a refund. £20 is an insult.

I agree. There's loads of bikes out there.

Thanks guys, just a shame as there wont be any bike with the same spec for the £549 I paid for it, shame, but it would play on my mind, so will stick with the hybrid over winter and get something before next summer.

This is my plan as well, using my Hybrid over the Winter, I have asked for vouchers for the LBS for Bday and Christmas.

There is always the Jan sales, shops will be desperate to shift any 2016 bikes then as well to make room for the 2017 models! so you may get a great deal!

I've just recently bought online and when it came it was chipped. I originally got the bike for £250 less than retail so decided I would keep it but contact the retailer. He has agreed to foot the bill for me to have it repaired even though I do suspect he already knew it was damaged.
Bike rides exactly the same as it would without the chip but if they won't give a reasonable discount I'd send it back every time.
