Can't spell, Can't Punctuate....Sue Me
Presumably this bike has been bought online or via mailorder of some kind since the OP is having to set up the handlebars himself, therefore the suggestion of taking it back to the shop he bought it from is perhaps not so simple and will be time consuming.
The best bet, other than doing it himself, would be to take it to his LBS, although the seller should pay for the cost of this.

i'm struggling to see why the seller of the bike should pay for the OP to have the bike set-up for him. if he bought it online i would presume that he was imformed prior to purchase that the bike would come boxed and would need some parts of the bike fitted i.e pedals, handlebars and saddle.

If incorrect cable outers were supplied the seller does have responsibility to make good (even including the expense of return postage of the whole bike IF it comes to that, within 7 working days, for mail order). Certainly the OP should check if the cables have not been mixed up during his self-assembly, hence my suggestions above.

I know exactly what's wrong with it. And it's not that the cables are too short.

Is it wrong of me not to tell the OP because I think that (a) if he cant see how to fix it then he's not qualified to assemble a bicycle to road-going condition and (b) I don't agree on principle to bikes being sold unassembled?

Oh, and unless we forget, the OP has now undone the inners, what's the chances of him being able to index the gears now?

Back to the shop.

I think you are being a little harsh. Isn't that how we learn. We have a problem, we ask and hope someone can point us in the right direction. I take your point that the OP may not be qualified to fix the bike, but we all had to start somewhere and if no-one helps then none of us would have become able to do the work that we do on our bikes.

handlebars not installed properly - pointing down ...not right that should be more flat - look at any road bike manufacturers web page to see wht thy shhould look like, simple to adjust but I'd agree with Mickle, though you could also look for beginners bicycle maintainance courses - they'll pay for themselves very quickly!

Care to enlighten us, Mickle? I can't see what's up from the profile pic. Obviously the 'bars are way out from where they need to be, but I don't see how that would impact the lengths for the gear cables.

Oh, all right then... OP is rotating the bars the wrong way. ie; clockwise, looking at the bars from the lh side. If he pushes them down and all the way over (anti-clockwise looking at his photo) the cables will untangle themselves.

+1. It seems to me the left/front gear cable housing is pretty straight at the current (wrong) bars angle, am not sure how rotating bars one way or another will help when at the right angle, where the sti will be higher, the same length must still be ok...

Hi guys. Outcome was that the outer cables were too short so sent back to the company and they fixed the problem. Delayed me getting out on my bike but at least i have it and it is fixed
