Hi there.
I recently purchased a 'Coyote Big Sur 2012'
The roadbike has drop handles. However the wire covers are not long enough for the handles to be positioned correctly (brake levers facing foward). Instead they the wire covers only let the handles face the floor.
I have tried to loosen the brake and and gear wires to position the handles but then the caseing is not long enough to cover the wire. Have i been given the wrong wires? Or am i missing something?

Any help would be lovely
Thank you
Ryan.

Is it possible to upload a photo or two so we can actually see the problem.

Hello Ryan,
Do you think you may be able to post a picture?
Welcome to the forums too :hello:

Hello Ryan
Some picture would be of help for us to understand your problem, but it seems from your description that the cables may well be too short. A trip to your LBS might be a worthy idea
(seems we all answered with the same idea)

Perhaps i can clarify. I am assembling the newbike and cannot position the drop handlebars correctly due to the gear lever cables being too short. I can release the inner cables which allows me to position the handles correctly but the outter cables are not long enough to seat at the ajusters on the frame. I will attempt to upload some photos later but it is not clear.

Hi guys.
My profile picture shows my problem..
The outer cables are only long enough for the handles to rise this high and not to the 'normal' position.
Have i recieved the wrong cables? Or is there someway i can fix this?
Thanks

Take it back to the shop from which it was purchased and insist that they make it roadworthy. Simple.

That outer is far too short - it looks about the same length as the last one before the rear mech...

So a long shot - could they have been switched? and/or mixed up with a brake cable outer*?

* brake outer wires curl around like springs, while gear outer wires run in the direction of the cable.

I can't quite make it out in the avatar, but is there inline barrel adjusters not fitted ? That'd give you an extra inch however if it the screw type at the frame they are not needed and shouldn't be fitted. Another thing which is hard to see is it just one outer thats really short and does the rear derailleur outer seem too long perhaps somebody has managed to mix them up. Its a new bike though and as mickle says let them sort it out, back to the shop ;-)

I know exactly what's wrong with it. And it's not that the cables are too short.

Is it wrong of me not to tell the OP because I think that (a) if he cant see how to fix it then he's not qualified to assemble a bicycle to road-going condition and (b) I don't agree on principle to bikes being sold unassembled?

Oh, and unless we forget, the OP has now undone the inners, what's the chances of him being able to index the gears now?

Back to the shop.

Presumably this bike has been bought online or via mailorder of some kind since the OP is having to set up the handlebars himself, therefore the suggestion of taking it back to the shop he bought it from is perhaps not so simple and will be time consuming.
The best bet, other than doing it himself, would be to take it to his LBS, although the seller should pay for the cost of this.
