Went to my LBS today to buy an inner tube. Ended up with a rack and my handlebars raised ... but totally forgot about the inner tube.

*sigh*

Are you lot trying to escape from Colditz?
All I take with me, are my House keys.

I don't even take those! I expect my OH to let me in when I get back... although one time he was on the loo and I wasn't impressed.

What do you do if you get a puncture or something goes wrong with your bike and you're twenty miles from home?

I will phone home (assuming I've got change/remembered my phone) and beg to be rescued. Or get a bus.
I'm mystified how on earth you all pack all that stuff onto a bike! I've got a tiny little bag under the handlebars and it's only just big enough for a bottle, phone and a fiver. Hence leaving the keys at home. I stuff some snacks in my jacket pockets but that's it.
I think we need pictures of your packed-up stuff and how you manage to fit it on to a bike...

to answer the original question - i don't take any bike related kit on short rides (which i do most often, up to 20km). on longer rides - it depends on a distance and weather forecast - tools, spare clothes, bit of food.

To get back in Colditz of course ;)

All in pockets of jersey except for pack tool and found my keys go into my saddle bag too which is nice.
Crank brothers single tyre removing lever
Spare tube
Pack tool
Pump
Phone
House keys (the obvious!!)
Depending on distance and where I am going - bidon / 2, energy bar / more, money
Glasses - when I very first started cycling (mainly around town at the time) I wondered why wear a clear pair (I was glad of protection from grit later) but never without a pair on my face...what ever is right for the weather.
Buff - If its a cold / cool. Love them.
Cap or helmet. Occasionally nothing.

Here you go. Bag is a carradice barley. Left pocket holds the First Aid Kit, right pocket holds inner tube, puncture kit and tools,. Main compartment takes waterproofs and has room for an SLR and a few lenses. Lock velcroes onto the bag flap.Pump mounts on the frame next to the water bottle.

I carry most of the above except the zipties (what a good idea) and the p******* repair kit (I normally carry two inner tubes) plus a swiss army knife that has a blade, scissors, tweasers and a small biro.

General kit: Spare tube x2 , puncture repair kit, tyre levers, multitool, bicycle pump, disposible gloves, cable ties. It sounds a lot, but it all fits in the saddle bag, except the pump.

And things for the ride: Drink (water, or energy drink and/or electrolytes/coca cola) food (banana, cerial bars, soreen, chorley cake, cashew nuts)

So on a 30km run I'll take all the general kit listed, one bottle of drink, and more food that I will actually eat.
