Other than the usual stuff that others have mentioned I find a selection of zipties can come in handy for all kinds of things broken

No need for water unless it is mid summer as it is only 10 miles each way

Currently carrying some leggings and arm warmers just in case as i am coming home at 5 am after nights and it can bit a bit chilly.

Depends how long I'm going out for.

If it's just into Taunton (maximum 5 miles return):

D Lock
Alarm

Basic kit for up to 20 miles return is:

Spare tube
Puncture repair kit
Mini pump
Tyre levers
Multi-tool with allen keys and screwdrivers
Holder with 4 charged AAA batteries in it. (don't need anything bigger - have dynamos!)
Water
Phone, charged up.
Credit card and a bit of cash.

If I'm going further then add:

Food
CO2 tyre inflator
Battery front headlight if I'm likely to want it
2nd spare tube

Optional:

Maps
Extra clothes (whatever seems a good idea at the time).
Garmin Foretrex (to tell me where I am if I get lost).
