BB if you decide to use corrosive liquids such as caustic soda, sulphuric or nitric acid then you really should wear suitable PPE such as acid proof gloves, goggles, coat and boots.

Always add acid to water rather than water to acid as it may well spit if the latter. Check whether your are permitted to put such concentrated acids into domestic drains.

For me I would favour a mechanical disassembly, thorough clean with bleach, rinsing and refitting, which co-incidentally I have just done for my bathroom, both the basin and bath traps and pipes are now squeaky clean and water flows away immediately with no chance for it to build up. When the plug is pulled on a full basin the water disappears in seconds, the basin gurgling with pleasure ending with a resounding burp! If a waste pipe is really bunged up and stinks just bin it and fit new. Plastic waste piping is pretty cheap as are the press fit join fittings. Strangely satisfying completing the job knowing you haven't been fleeced by a scumbag thieving plumber for £700 .

OK, your bottom braket bearing on the bike have seized due to crudTNM - do you:

a/. Blast with a pressure washer?

b/. Spray with WD40 ?

c/. Take apart - clean, grease, replace if necessary?

FFS, I'm a laboratory manager - I have a whole store of chemicals - If we get a blocked drain in the labs, I take it apart, clean it out and re-install!

I think you assume easy access, a total luxury compared to the installations installed by the average domestic plumber.
