National Cycle Route 7: Inverness to Pitlochry

I can't comment on the road via the Lecht from the North but from the south it's pretty brutal.

I'd personally go for the Braemar/Glenshee route rather than the Cairn O Mount - you'd come out of the hills much closer to your destination.

From Kirriemuir to Glasgow you've got lots of routes, depending upon how you're feeling you could make a beeline for it via Perth/Stirling, although I'd go via Alyth/Blairgowrie/Dunkeld/Amulree/Crieff. Ignore any calls to ride through Fife, that way lies madness :okay:

The Lecht from the North is still pretty steep at the end: -

Lecht from the south looks nasty, from the north the steepest bit is right at the start - there's a 12-14% ramp, then it's just steady upwards, followed by a cracking descent, with no worries about slowing down, as the road rises ... before the nasty hairpins next on the way down ... :surrender: People have been known to attempt to walk down them in the wet - which becomes a bit more difficult in cleats ...

Here for rides.
I've ridden Glasgae to Inverness on NCN on touring- and fast-touring (think audax) bikes a couple of times. Once in either direction, and various long stretches as part of other rides.

I just rocked up and followed the little blue signs. I don't recall any particular nightmares on 28c's though 40+ was more comfy.

They made me swear iirc, and almost reduced my riding partner to tears, but they were/are just rough tracks in a forest. Hard to ride fast but...
@flyingfifi who is an accomplished mbiker, nearly came off her bike on the gravel descent to Aberfoyle.
I was almost in tears too.
We were riding hybrids on slick marathons, never again!

Thought I recognised some of the pics. I recall that my descent got a bit lairy when fully loaded but I blamed poor line choice and braking too much. I much preferred the descent to Aberfoyle to climbing out of it going the other way.

No way I'm riding that bit again without a full sus
Actually, I think it would be a nice walk rather than a cycle.
