Cyclist showed them too much of an open door there, clearly too tempting for the drivers. Obviously both drivers were incompetent idiots, but you have to assume all drivers are and ride accordingly.

They've got the whole lane, no one is allowed to overtake them, yet they ride in the gutter? I think the van driver lost control and hit the cones in amazement at their idiocy.

The cyclist isn't riding in the gutter.

If motorists want to ignore a sign, double white lines and bollards, what on earth makes people think a cyclist riding a few feet further to the right is going to prevent an asinine overtaking manoeuvre - naivety?

That clip backs up my theory that roadworks turn some drivers into complete morons who can't accept going a little slower.

Parts of my commute look like a bomb's gone off in a cone factory right now. It's like whoever plans roads round Newcastle has decided to have a game of "Let's see how we can totally f£ck a junction where nothing was wrong", which isn't much fun for anyone.

Having stopped to see that he wasn't needed to be a witness to an incident caused by the van, why on earth didn't the cyclist just get on with his trip? Only the most contrite of motorists wouldn't think the cyclist was coming back to berate or gloat at the standard of driving displayed, much in the same way a cyclist would consider why a close-passing motorist stops immediately up ahead and exits their vehicle towards them.

Perhaps because he wanted to take a few deep breaths and regain his composure after nearly being hit by a vehicle weighing a few tonnes?

The cyclist also goes back to check the driver is OK, does not make an issue out of the incident and then returns to his bike. It strikes me that his behaviour is considerate and measured.
