Greetings fellow Cycle enthusiasts, as you can tell im a newbie to these forums and im also a newbie to Cycling more or less. I grew up in and still live in Fife. I used to do a lot of cycling when I was a teenager (always on a mountain bike) and then I decided last summer to get fit and get back on the saddle, I was told about an even called Peddle for Scotland which in my eyes sounded like a great thing to do raise money for charity etc etc and so I borrowed my brothers racer a Giant OCR2 06 model (which I have now bought off him). I completed said cycle in September and had a great time if not a bit lonely.

I work 55 hours a week including the weekends so getting out at the same time as other people is probably the hardest thing.

I have now been cycling for quite some time, lost a stone in weight and have been loving getting fit again, I usually aim for one cycle a week doing around 60 miles all in fife. Im beginning to wonder about entering some Cycle sportives etc and have been looking around for information.

I just wanted to let you know that this has probably been the best and most informative web site/forum I have ever been on. From day one I have been coming on here looking at information on training and kit etc and I just decided to actually sign up last week.

So it’s a big thumbs up from me J and seriously keep up all the good work. Cycle chat is a very friendly place to be and when I look through all these forums I can see everyone has there own opinion and everyone is allowed to voice that opinion. Love it

:hello: Stephen-D and ;) to CC ! As you live in the Kingdom, you also qualify for CC Ecosse . There are a fair few of us on this side of the country and even some in Fife - as you have no doubt noticed .

Being in the west part of the Kingdom, you are (dangerously  ) near to Jane Smart et al in Dumf and not too far from those of us (sofisticates [sic] ;)) in the capital.

You do seem to have an issue with your work/leisure balance - too much graft and not enough  and  ! Many congrats on your weight loss too .

Once (if ) the weather improves, keep an eye out on the "CC and Informal Rides, Clubs and Events" thread, where you will see details of the next CC Ecosse Ride - probably another RV, where we agree to meet at X place and arrange our own routes to and from.

Some of us are able to do rides out of weekends too, so keep in touch.

Hi Stephen and welcome along to the forum from me too. As Scoosh(ie;)) pointed out you are not too far away from many of us, so it would be indeed great to meet you when you join us on some of our lovely rides

Well done on the weight loss too, that is great

;) You might look into what are called "audax" rides in the UK (we call them "randonnees" in NA). They are a little less competitive than what I understand "sportives" to be, though the longer rides will demand great mental and physical stamina. More info at VeloWeb and Audax UK.

Anyway, in whatever form you pursue the sport, you already know what some of the rewards are.

Good luck!

I'm doing some Audax in 2010 (2x 100km in '09) in the Edinburgh and Angus areas let us know if you are going to take the plunge. Its so much easier if you know some one who is going to be slower than you
