maybe with hindsight you could have flashed your hazards, but i'm not sure how the other driver would have interpreted this??? or just quickly pulled over to the right side of the road and pulled in again so the guy behind could see the cyclist. but to be honest, it's not your responsibility how the other driver drives. i think you should have just carried on driving as normal as if he wasn't behind you.

OK, to try to explain my point of view again but better: I think what you did was good. I find that when I have a cyclist in front and an impatient car behind, I can often pull out to the right and effectively block the car behind from overtaking.

Keeping well back from the cyclist. In effect, you use your car to prevent the rider from being approached from behind.

I can see what you mean. In this instance tho' the road is so narrow, that moving slightly to the right would have been risky when visibility was poor, and moving in and out might have further enflamed the patience of the car behind.

That was at Birmingham Uni, on one of our bike to work roadshows. He was originally just dressed in waterproofs and helmet, but there were some police there giving security advice, and they'd had a blast on our recumbent trike and were in cheerful mood, and demanded we add the stab vest.

As for my, um, grasp, that was just how I picked him up, and someone thought it worth recording...
