My phone bill including broadband is about £130 a quarter. I feel like it's loads how does it compare with you lot? I noticed that £25 relates to calls to boys dad's mobile - they frequently try to contact him several times in an evening if he doesn't phone and obviously every time it goes to answerphone I'm paying connection charge. It seems a bit mean to insist they phone his home number and if he's not in leave a message and that's that but on the other hand I feel like I'm wasting money.

It might be worth having a brief look at some mobile phone deals. For example it used to be free* to phone from o2 to o2 on some tarrifs.

*There's always fee involved if not directly for the call

My Mrs. ran up a few quid on the phone bill when our dog died many moons ago. My phone was in the van all day because I was occupied with my work. After 30-40 calls to my answerphone she gave up until I arrived home that night. B.T. never gave up until they had wrung every last penny out of me!

teach your kids how to do the "one ring sting"... that is ring Dad's mobile, let it ring once and then put the phone down. that way Dad gets a "missed call" and he'll ring back.

Do the trick that Buggi says. Hopefully he's on a contract mobile which already includes landlines calls.

There's one number i ring a lot. Sometimes I get the ansafone, but I know how many rings I get before it kicks in and hang up just before. Teach the kids to do that....

As for the bill, you should be able to pay around £25 a month and get nearly 1000 minutes free calls to mobiles and landlines and unlimited texts, and that's with vodafone, one of the more expensive ones....

Sounds like you're on an old contract, things have got much cheaper recently....
your next thread will be asking for tips on how to get the best deal out of them, there's an art to it!!!!

Depends. If it includes a beefy broadband package and the line rental it's not that astronomical at all. That said for years now there have been unmetered calls so my bills have certainly been a lot lower than that.

can't believe anyone bothers with landlines now, what's the point?
Unlike a mobile, at least you know where the landline is. It's tied to the wall with a bit of wire.;)
