Found a painter local who does custom paint on Harleys and other bikes, he also does the airbrush artwork, also he had two Raleigh BMX's he was painting so result,

Oh and a fraction of the price of a local cycle shop.

Are you sticking with the original paint Ian? Becuase it looks absolutely stunning - almost an anodised gold colour.
It sounds like you've got the paint side of things sorted now, but if not then you could do much worse than giving these lads a go: http://www.rotherhamrefinishing.co.uk/sheffield.htm

When I used to own cars of character, I would just take in the petrol filler flap and they would mix up paint to match it.

PS what the hell is going on with the copper coloured handlebars? Superb.

I know, my mate who gave me the bike said the bars are good quality, they have GB on them and very narrow but if I keep them I will polish off the anodized red.

And yes Goldie I will have it painted in the original colours, As I really like the colours the bike shop who wanted me to pay for 4ltrs of paint!!!!! said it's been 5yrs since anyone asked for that colour so thats a good thing as it isn't a common colour.

Don't strip the handlebars! There'll be someone out there thinking "if only I could find some red anodized GB handlebars..." I've never seen another pair like that. I'd guess you'll be able to sell those for more than the cost of picking up a par of natural aluminium GB bars. I think the last pair I bought were only a fiver plus postage.

I was going to say that too, but RED??!! :giggle:

Seriously though, yes, I'd keep them, and hey, you can always add bar tape to them if you really don't like the colour!!

Been shopping this morning for some NOS parts
I am removing the original pump mounts because I have bought a nice pump that I like.
I have polished off the silver anodising in the centre of the handle bars only because I LIKE SHINY.
The frame is at the cycle shop having the rear brake caliper bracket either replaced or repaired as some numpty has over tightened the caliper nut.
Then before having it painted in original colours I am having the front forks and rear dropouts nickle plated as I want to put my own little twist on it.

Just picked up my chrome plating, the dropouts look stunning, only thing is the put the whole frame in the acid bath!!!

So all that original paint has been removed so no chance of a colour match now

I have also bought some shortie mudguards, Campagnolo shifter, umbrella pump bottom mounting etc.

I will post pics later today.
