don't wish to boast but...
...a roadie passed me going up the hill from Thirlmere to Grassmere (downhill section)
I was on a Spesh Hybrid.
He smirked when he passed me.
Decided that as an over-weight 42 year old I was having nothing of it.

Left my pal and caught him up on the brim of the hill.

Slip streamed him until he hit 40 mph. I actually had to sit up to slow down.

Then decided to take him.
Did at least 45 mph going by.
He nearly filled his lycra as I went bu.

Problem is that he then did exactly the same to me!!!!!!

I had to do a right turn as I entered the village to do the scenic route to Hawkeshead so he left me behind.

Drafting is such fun!!!! A guy does it to me each morning on the way to work.....one day I will be behind him without him knowing!

I remember you saying your averaging 18mph on your new road bike so presumably you could time trial 20 miles in a hour pretty easily.

That average has gone down to 17mph since I started extending the distance and throwing some hills into the equation. I'm not sure what I could do on a TT. I might pick out a flat 10 mile course next week and go hell for leather, see what I manage!

If your like me then when your riding normally your pretty much going flat out riding to your full potential so room for improvement is kindof limited - but it does exist it just means pushing that uncomfortable bit harder and going into the pain zone. Least you havnt got that much improvement needed to hit 20mph.
Good luck and letus know your tt result.
The quality of the road also makes a difference .
