Some might consider your blood pressure to be on the high side of normal.

I used to be underweight for my height.

I cured that with pies.

I need to cure my opposite condition with platform shoes....;)

I have to take meds to stop my BP going sky high - way over 250 for the systolic - but the docs only seem happy when it's down below 140 - I'm 58, BMI 23, . I've no idea what a safe diastolic is but if you have the chance to take it again, go for a ride just before the test. Mine goes down around 20 points. I reckon you could get it down to 50.

I'm 21...
I wouldn't worry about it, but I would be interested in having it checked in more relaxed circumstances, like at home. I would bet it would be quite a bit lower. Normally at the Dr's if you had that they would get you back in a couple of months.

140/80 is the level as I am sure Dr Google told you, but emotions and surroundings can play a big part. There was a show on the Radio about false positives for high blood pressure people who are only high in medical surroundings and they launched a nurse on to the Dr that was defending GP's and his was 160/90 if I remember rightly and he got all flustered and said it is normally 133/80 and you would expect it to be high in the studio..

Thank you. Great help. I might go to the doctors and get it taken again. I'll get it tested after I cycle, then I'll get it tested by walking there. See if there's any difference. I'll also check if I can find a little gadget to test these things at home.

Cheating the blood pressure machine kind of defeats the object! What you have is a bounce reaction to the raised pressure of the excercise and can last up to 4-5 hours.

The London Cyclist is not high, it is high normal. At 21 I would want it lower, but I am not a Dr.

Your post prompted me to take mine lol the machines are about £80 do not buy one of the wrist things. A & D Medical are pretty good as some keep and average your last 60 readings.

Maybe your Dr will offer you one if you are 148/83 in the Surgery. I wouldn't hard excercise for 5 hours before if you want an accurate reading of what your average daily pressure is..

Honestly it is nothing to worry about, I have seen 200/110 !! They didn't want me to leave I had only gone there with a sinus infection (I suffer with severe white coat) At home I was 160/92 Still too high. This was two years ago. It got me back on my bike TBH

I just tested my ppulse rate and got 48 nearly every time by timing 12 by 4. I get 12 beats every 15 seconds on the rist. Checking for a Sphygmomanometer for my blood pressure
