Riding in the dark is great, just watch out for pot holes you have a very good light but they sometimes don`t look as deep as in daylight, just go easy until you get used to it and enjoy the change.

To preserve some of your night vision when faced with bright headlights, try closing one eye. It works a treat. As long as you don't get completely disorientated and veer off the road.

As long as I breathe, I attack.
I find it is never "that dark" unless it is very cloudy. Take it easy, enjoy.
It is at 3 am on unlit country lanes
Seriously though coming home after night shift on the back lanes i needed the magicshine on full power to see where i am going but the odd car that is about does tend to give you a lot more room.

What sort of oomph are we talking? I'm a bit confused by lux & lumens. My front light is 35 lux, and I'm not sure that'd be any good on country lanes.

IIRC a good light is about 100 lux, but I could be wrong.

And I don't know if lux measurement is linear. Could be something else. I CBA to look on t'internet.

I made it home safely. It was not as scary as I thought although only time will tell if I enjoy it or not.

There is a stretch of about 2.5 miles with no lights that is a fast road too so pleased with myself for not panicking! could have done without a strong headwind in places but you can't win em all!
Nice one :highfive: Now only another 6 - 7 weeks until the nights start drawing out again:smile:
I was convinced on my first night ride that I was going to hit a badger all the way home!! Had to settle for pesky pot holes instead!
Hope the wind eases for you tomorrow

you're gonna love it and wonder why you ain't done it sooner. As long as you have good enough lights to see potholes then you will be fine. Cars will give you extra room in the dark bcoz they will spot you a mile off... The advantage of no street lights is you stand out like beacon. And be prepared for amazing skies on clear nights ... Just don't put yourself in a ditch while looking up for too long.

If it says 35 lux I guess it is a Smart as they are about the only ones who use lux as a rating. I have one of these great around town but I found it a bit lacking when there is zero street lighting: I could see or go quickly but not both. I then paired it up with a Vision 1 and was far happier. Mind you, the roads I use are quiet, if your route is busier you may prefer a (suitably angled) Chinese bunny blinder.

I've got the Lunar R2 rear light from Smart and it works very well for the money.
