Before you commit, have a look at Plant X offerings they had some beautiful Guerciotti CX frames on sale, as well as their own recently. Incidentally I think most frames these days are manufactured somewhere east of Milan.

I had a good experience with Planet X - I bought a carbon Orbea frame from them for £400 - the first one had a blowhole in the top surface near the bottom bracket. They replaced it without question and were really helpful finding headset spacers as the frame is slightly odd in the head tube. I really appreciated the help of the bloke on the end of the phone.

I wouldn't consider a CCF to be any sort of an upgrade, but maybe that's just me

Anyhoo, if you're hell bent on doing it then PM @gb155. He's built about 3 CCF's IIRC and can obviously pass on his experiences and put you in touch with the supplier he used.

AFAIK he never had any issues with any of his, but then again he did used to change bikes like most folk change their socks, although he probably put more miles on each of them in the time he had them than the average Joe would do in a year ;)

In between here and there
I would always buy from within the EU, even if it is an identical frame but more expensive. I import products from China and if anything was to go tits up with any of them the buck stops with me. I am covered by public liability but with limited resources for me in China I would not import higher risk items such as electricals etc. My insurance company have made it clear there is no way they could ever successfully sue a company in China for a public liability claim.

So basically I am sure most of the frames are fine, but I know the issues I have had with fairly uncomplicated products varying in quality from one order to another and that alone would put me off, buying direct. If it is from the within the EU it wouldn't bother me as such as the risk lays with importer.

Not enough money to worry about, buy it and enjoy it. If they were all bad they would not have a market to sell too.

Hello,

I have a few questions out of curiosity:

What wheels are you using?
What brakes are you using?
How long did they quote for delivery?

I was a similar price to the frame I ordered and I asked them to put the invoice price lower on the shipping details but didn't specify an amount. I have found out since that the details were given as a frame and a cost of $100 which should make life easier.

Good luck

@tincaman what are the Kinesis wheels like? .. I'm looking to upgrade the wheels on my Boardman and they took my fancy ..your view would be appreciated.

Yes, very pleased so far, but don't expect to gain much in overall speed! They are much lighter (weighed in at 1640g) and so change the feel and handling of the bike. I have paired them with 25mm Pro4 Endurance and this seems a good match, size wise they pump up to 27.5mm @ 90psi, so I run 90psi back and 75psi front, (I weigh 80kg). A rear wheel bearing went noisy in the first 100 miles but rather than send them back I just knocked it out and pushed a new one in at a cost of £10 for the bearing, very easy job to do. The freehub assembly just drops out when you unscrew the axle so is very easy to get access to the inner bearings on the hub, you dont even have to take the cassette off. There are 2 cartridge bearings in the main hub and two more in the freehub.
