train stations are magnets for bike thieves - it's been like that for decades and nothing has been done about it - shocking really

That's not quite fair. The Fen Line stations have some with enhanced CCTV and some with "bait bikes" but the problem is that it's not consistently good. Bike thieves assume that they can work to crack locks unmolested between trains and that most bikes will be there for many hours.

This has combined with the anti-bike policies of many train operators (partly forced by anti-bike rolling stock designs foisted on them from above) to mean I either take a folding bike or park in a higher-traffic area and walk the last bit to the station. It's a bit of a silly situation and no sign that councillors or MPs will act to fix it - ask your local candidates (through www.votebike.org.uk if no-how else) and please please vote bike next Thursday.

Barnet,
I once had another bike chained to mine accidently with a cheapish combi lock. I was able to break the chain with a bit of brute strength. I did leave a note explaining why the chain and lock was broken.

That can be a thieves trick, you leave your bike and they then steal it at their leisure.

It definitely wasn't a cheap combo lock but i do get the sentiment. D Locks from here on in! Had a look at the station last night and there are 4 CCTV cameras around there so maybe they will be able to see something, not that it will help!

Unlucky mate  Never fun having a bike stolen. As mentioned before, any chance your home insurance will kick in?
