Real bummer and yeah it makes you want to cry regardless whether it's a carbon or not, when mine was stripped of parts while outside work I thought my colleagues were just messing about at first (I only noticed the wheels had gone at first) but once I found out it wasn't them I had to hold back the tears

Oh no,

But a CHAIN and combination. Unless it's a 5kg chain lock, it ain't any good.

Really sorry.

I have 4 locks and an alarm on my bike in a 'so called' secure parking at work. The locals know the security team can't get there quick enough before knicking a bike an a couple of minutes (CCTV monitored bike parking in a locked bike area).

It's a horrible feeling when you get there and see the empty space where your bike WAS. The worst I've had is that a new bike (a cheap pub bike) was nicked in one day.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Crap. Horrible feeling.

I'd never, ever use a combination lock. If you want to know why, have a look at the multitude of videos on YouTube that show you how to 'hack' them.

I've had a number of incidents at work of having a power to access /take something secured by a combination lock of some sort, and have always managed to do so without causing damage.

Personally I'm so paranoid I don't leave my bike locked up anywhere at all, but if I had to I'd probably put my faith in a decent d-lock, and even then not be massively surprised if it was still stolen.

Are combination locks really that easy to break? I've used the same type of lock for around 8 years and when things did get stolen I was left with a frame due to them not being able to remove the lock

Generally they are that easy to break. One that half odds were selling three years ago would fall to bits if you stood on the cable and pulled the other side of the combo lock. Big burly looking thing and about £15 so not a cafe lock, but only rated 3/10 by their own website so I've no idea why they even bothered to sell it.

Some combo locks are better thanothers but most are far easier to open than any lock with an I or T key. (Avoid O keys.)

Might be worth checking any local second hand shops as well, just on the off chance.

Sorry to hear you're bad news, it must be gutting

My youngest's got nicked last week from the bike racks outside the swimming pool. She was really upset. Not least because I'd built it for her, starting out with a frame I got off ebay. It was a nothing special old 10-speed, but she loved it. Gone. The Police have been really good about it, took it seriously even though I told them it wasn't worth much and we agreed the chances of getting it back were near-zero. But I had a call yesterday to say they'd been to the pool and yes they do have a CCTV system, but it's been playing up lately, and that particular evening it was on strike....so. That's that. Bummer.
