It's been 9 months since MIL passed, and its taken a long time to clear it out. We've still got too much stuff here that needs sorting and disposing of. MrsF has been going through huge piles of videos to check there is no family stuff on them.

since my Dad passed last July my Mom has been doing similar things. every visit to the house, pulls at my heart. wishing you both well

You aren't funny. We are actually trying to give the thing back (it was lent to us by another Institution as we had space - that space is now a premium so we'd like to give it back - it takes up two rooms.

Why did they lend it to you, do you think?

SWMBO is going over to Northern Ireland in a week or so to help her Dad sort her Mum's things out. She's been in a Dementia care home for the past three years and it's time to clear her things as she won't be returning to the family home.

I'm not sure whether this makes it easier or worse doing this whilst she's alive; they can still go and see her, but she's no clue who they are any more.

It has to be done - we've been clearing MrsF's dad's stuff, and he died 8 years ago. They had got rid of clothing, but his 'stuff' was still there - computers, loads of printers, cameras etc etc. All complicated with one of the sister's being a hoarder (like in the TV shows) and she's been taking stuff home (for which she has no use for it). The house was full of a lifetime's stuff. I'm sure we've exceeded our 'tip run' allowance - the council ANPR all the cars, and you are only allowed 52 household visits in a year (no point alternating cars).

It's finally complete, money changed hands, council paid for the care home, utilities cancelled etc.

A greyish and breezy day here chez Casa Reynard. Was a cold one overnight.

Slept OK-ish, but I feel like I've been flattened by a knackered old bus. I had planned some bike time for today, but I don't think that's going to happen, I'm just far too achey. Have had a quiet morning; done some laundry, re-stocked a few things in the house (I keep things like surplus cat food, canned goods and toiletries in the utility room behind the garage) and poked a bit through some of that stash of motoring newses.

Do have to go out later to pick up the parental's prescription, but I shall be doing that by car.

It is almost time for luncheon, and the cats are staring at me because it's almost ham time.

awww that's rough. my Mom & the rest of us still like keeping some things around as tributes to Dad's life. but yeah there are lot's of other things that can go & can be shared w/ family. it's been a slow process, not just one big swipe. we found it best to let our Mom make the decisions. can't imagine doing it while the person is still alive. good luck

I have a sister in law who is a hoarder and when clearing my parents house took a sewing machine for which she had no use. She eventually gave it to me but minus some important bits. She even purloined and hid a pot plant which my sister wanted.

I went for a ride with my 2 friends this morning . I thought that they might have cancelled as it was pretty cold . We went ahead with it . It was a bit chilly on my head . I rode my 60 year old Viking Conquest which has only 5 years and a 48 tooth chainring , so it was a bit of a struggle on some of the hills. I managed it though and kept up with them on their more modern bikes . We did over 10 miles .
