First duty of the day - check that my pay had been deposited in the bank.

You’re not alone on that one ! Not sure why. 17 years with my Employer; and pay has not once been an issue.

*Soon followed here by depositing ‘most’ of it in various savings / pension accounts etc.

Mostly thinking about the future these days: I’m literally ‘well off’ for about an hour a month max……

Printer is in the process of being fettled. Diagnosis after some troubleshooting was a gummed up nozzle / ink feed, so the print head is sitting in a shallow dish of warm, soapy water in a bid to un-gum whatever was gumming it up.

Popped out to a local garage where I spotted they had some coal on clearance the other day (bad timing, I was heading down to Hampshire and didn't want to drive 300 miles with a boot full of coal), but even their full price coal was all gone. No biggie, the Co-op in the next village along sells it all year round. I just wanted a couple of sacks to tide me through the next few weeks if I can't do wood outside.

Now sat down with a :cuppa: and a chocolate cake bar.

Bike shed dehumidifier swopped for a new one, old one was a cheap refurb of the same model and has been making some strange noises which had got noticeably louder by Saturday. New one delivered by Amazon although not ordered via them. Now to strip the old one down at some future date with the hope of finding what is being noisy and more hopefully fixing it.

Why have you left out the sign saying cattle keep left?

I had an interesting ride this afternoon .
It was sunny so I thought I would give my Boardman Sport X7 a test ride. I had fitted a pair of aluminium forks on whilst I repair the carbon ones . I think the forks are off a Cannondale bike . I took the wheels off my Zelos again for the ride as I haven't yet sorted wheels out for it.
The first thing I noticed was that the ride felt smoother than the previous ride with the carbon forks . I also noticed that it didn't seem to pitch forwards and back like it did previously. The road test that I read on the net said that the ride felt harsh as if there weren't any tyres fitted . I didn't notice any of this when I cycled over some rough tarmac.
I'm wondering if the carbon forks are behaving like the blades that Para Olympians use . The forks are bending to absorb the impact of riding into a dip but springing back when coming out . This could explain the pitching sensation I was feeling . If it turns out that the aluminium forks give a smoother ride I will stick with them .

Just been listening to BBC Scotland mispronouncing Lerwick as Lerric. They were reporting on Ap Helly AA which is today.
Seems to be wet and very windy.
I did like Shetland as we had several visits because my brother has lived there for many years now but they were in June mostly. I don’t really fancy going in January/February.
Younger son worked there for a while ( where has he not been? ) and was offered a lecturing job at the college in Scalloway but his then girlfriend, now wife did not fancy moving there.

Wind is my abiding memory and on one occasion I cycled ( struggled) out for two hours and then turned back when the return trip took about twenty minutes without even turning the pedals.

FB brings out the idiots. One just been asking if he comes on holiday can he walk to Staffa? A cursory glance at a map shows it to be an island.
It's nigh on 17 years since I walked the Path but I remember the owner of one of the B+B's that I stayed at told me of an American couple who had expected the path to be like a Promenade. I suspect he was pulling my leg. On another occasion the days walk had been very precarious with parts of the path badly eroded and some quite stony places very close to the edge. When I finally got to my digs I was chatting to the owner and he told me of a young couple who had decided to walk that part of the Path, set out late and misjudged the difficulty. They lost the light and had to navigate by using the camera flash on their phones 😮

I have various bills which come out throughout the month but on my current account spreadsheet I always show them as coming out on the 1st of the month so I know how much/little can be put aside and how much/little I have to live on for the rest of the month. It frequently means that what I have in my account and what my spreadsheet shows I have left don't match up until the 25th of the month when the last credit card payment is taken.

As a little bonus, I will be a bit better off next month as the last Cycle to Work payment was made from this month's salary alongside the second of two months without paying Council Tax.
