Ride It Like You Stole It!

It's dried up now, sun is out. Hope the headset doesn't come loose on the way home (new one ordered - old fashioned threadded).

These strikes are messing up my cycle commutes. I need to drive my daughter into Uni for the next three days. I'm supposed to be WFH on Friday, but will spend the afternoon, on my own, in the office ! Pah. Her lecturers are still going on tomorrow, but the trains will be non-existent for the rest of the week.

Sunny at my front windows and hail battering the back with a SW gale.
First ferry this morning could not get off the pier due to the wind.
In the good old days they laid out an anchor at berthing and pulled themselves off that way.
Despite the wind the holiday house bin emptied yesterday is still in place blocking two cars. They are good at putting them carefully out to cause maximum annoyance but it is the job of the local peasantry to chuck them back in the gate.
On the annoyance subject there are new complaints that the coop still does not stock cooking apples or cornflakes. I use neither unless I get the apples free from my next door neighbour who has a tree.
Must be feeling more peevish than usual this morning.
The village of Twatt on Orkney is no longer signposted as the local authority cannot afford to keep replacing the signs which are regularly stolen by tourists.

I rode through Twatt and saw only one sign at, I think, Swannay..

A bright, breezy and relatively mild day here chez Casa Reynard.

I slept well, and was hoping to spend the morning working on my archive. But my printer has decided not to play ball, and has started disgorging documents with strange colour casts, sometimes yellow/green, sometimes pink. It's not the ink cartridges running low - I checked each of them, and all six are about half full. The printer was behaving fine yesterday, but I suspect I might not have shut things down correctly, so have turned everything off and will try again.

I have found the manual online (Canon s900) and will see if that will help me. Looks like the nozzle is clogged as I'm not getting one of the cyans and only a bit of yellow on the test pattern.

Had gravlax on toast for luncheon, along with an apple, a banana and two :cuppa:

Now back to troubleshooting the printer.

Complete mundanity today.

After the excitement of chain saws and log splitters.

Today doing a bit of guerilla planting locally. Brighten the place up.
Then house cleaning. A source of conflict between me and the other occupant. I wander around with the spray polish and bathroom cleaner. Spray a bit to make it smell different and move on.
She on the other hand goes for a Panzer assault with the vacuum cleaner and needs step ladders to get to some harmless spiders web.

Height of excitement a brief cycle to the local EVRI drop off point to get rid of an eBay parcel. Need a lay down, again.

Just been listening to BBC Scotland mispronouncing Lerwick as Lerric. They were reporting on Ap Helly AA which is today.
Seems to be wet and very windy.
I did like Shetland as we had several visits because my brother has lived there for many years now but they were in June mostly. I don’t really fancy going in January/February.
Younger son worked there for a while ( where has he not been? ) and was offered a lecturing job at the college in Scalloway but his then girlfriend, now wife did not fancy moving there.

Wind is my abiding memory and on one occasion I cycled ( struggled) out for two hours and then turned back when the return trip took about twenty minutes without even turning the pedals.

FB brings out the idiots. One just been asking if he comes on holiday can he walk to Staffa? A cursory glance at a map shows it to be an island.

Sometimes things turn up which are funny but do not fit the joke section.
