A grey, mild and blustery day here chez Casa Reynard.
Slept well, but woke up way too early. So turned over, went back to sleep and then woke up at half past midday. Whoops! Quick run through the chores, a quick luncheon and then off to Tesco to do a spot of yellow stickering.
Turned out they did the vast majority of the markdowns right at the start of the day, and only 50%. So by the time I rocked up at 3pm, there wasn't overly much left. Hey ho, c'est la vie. In any case, not much space left in the freezer, so perhaps a good thing. I did get two packs of smoked basa (good for cullen skink and omelette Arnold Bennett), some Norwegian cold-smoked salmon, some cooked chicken breasts, one solitary sausage roll, plus a job lot of potatoes and shallots.
Not much left in the Christmas clearances, but I did pick up some Min Spies, some cheese (you can't have too much cheese, right?) and four cranberry and orange panettone.
However there were two bins of potatoes, one maris piper and one of new potatoes, and those did go down by 90% come 5pm, as there were SO many left. So basically, I bought a sack's worth of potatoes (20kg of pipers and 5k of new potatoes). and a kilo and a half of shallots for a combined total of £3. I can't complain about that.
Other good buy today were two bags of frozen cranberries, as I'd been wanting some more cranberries. No fresh ones to be had, neither in Tesco nor Waitrose, but Tesco turned up the frozen ones. When I looked last week, they had none, so good to see them. I can now make a batch of cranberry sauce to stash in the cupboard. I will see if they still have some in stock when I go for a mooch around town on Thursday. If they do, then I will snaffle another couple of bags to put in the freezer so that I can make cranberry and orange marmalade at some point in the future.
Had a lovely supper of a wrap filled with roast guinea fowl, stuffing, the last of the roasties, mayo and cranberry, a few picky bits from the fridge and a very nice mixed berry trifle.
Now spending a quiet evening by the fire. Although my internet is currently doing the hokey cokey thanks to the wires being wanged around by the squally winds - it is really starting to storm here. Rebooting the router seems to have worked for the moment.
