It is a back breaking position lying part way in the car between the seat and dash and trying to get your head and arms underneath the steering wheel. It seems that the old switch has miraculously repaired itself and the new one had failed. No fault was recorded according to the code reader. It also seems as though modern cars don't need the ignition on for the brake lights to work. . It used to be that brake lights and indicators needed the ignition to be on.
