"The health benefits of castor seed oil include relief from rheumatism, menstrual disorders, and constipation. It also helps in oral care, proper lactation."

"Ricinus communis seed oil, or castor oil, is made from castor plant seeds whose outer shell has been removed, as the shell contains a deadly poison called ricin. Castor oil has been used in traditional folk medicine all over the world for hundreds of years. Although it has a variety of recorded medicinal uses, the effectiveness of castor oil has not been proven for any health problem or condition. Therefore, first talk to your doctor before using castor oil for medical reasons.

Identification and Dosing
Ricinus communis is also known as castor oil plant, African coffee tree, castor bean, castor seed, palma christi, ricin, Mexico weed and wonder tree. The ripe seeds of the plant are pressed to make castor oil. Doses of castor oil used in clinical studies range from 5 milliliters to 120 milliliters given as a one-time dose, says Drugs.com.

Uses
Castor oil is more commonly used as a laxative. It is also used to induce labor and stimulate lactation, reports Drugs.com. Additionally, castor oil is applied to the skin for softening calluses, removing growths and warts, and for alleviating symptoms of arthritis, says the Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database or NMCD. Some use castor oil as a contraceptive when applied inside the vagina. Castor oil is also used on the eye to soothe irritation."

My Dad is back in hospital again having picked up and then completely ignored a urine infection ....

Anyway in his state of confusion they have shifted which ward he is on 3 times...last night they tried to shift him for the 4th time in 3 days!! He apparently sat in his chair and refused to move and read his paper! (He can be a stubborn old goat sometimes:giggle:). The hospital paid for a taxi to see if my mum could persuade him... But he just got into bed and went to sleep! She finally got home at 11 pm. He has now had the most to eat for quite a while today.... So hopefully is turning a corner!

I hope he gets better soon. My dad spent quite a lot of time in hospital in his last few years. He perfected a system of ignoring eye contact, pretending to be deaf and never speaking to people. He said that the wards were full of strange people and this was his way of surviving in their company.
and the folks in the neighbouring beds thought he was one of the strange ones!

I've been to the hospital for an MRI. When I got home, I read the letter they sent me. Should have looked it earlier ... No food or drink for at least two hours beforehand. Oops.

Wasn't told not to but I suspect eating porridge may have been the reason they had so much trouble doing my AAA scan
