By chance he's sitting next to a woman who is the sister of one of his school mates. What are the odds of that?
My friends were cycle touring in Patagonia a while back and stopped at a hotel on a desolate stretch of road for coffee. As they were locking up their bikes, a coach pulled up and a while load of tourists got out, presumably also in need of coffee and the toilet. My friends were attempting to get to the doors so they could be at the front of the queue when one of them heard her name being called. Turned out to be the mother of someone she went to school with and hasn't seen for decades!

Genuine question - why don't you keep your cats in at night? I thought this was recommended practice to protect small birds and other wildlife from the huge population of what is really a non-native predator.
They are primarily nocturnal animals. Most of what they catch is classified as vermin. Plus they are far less likely to catch birds at night when they are roosting.

Always good, But as I will be starting from Holmfirth then it has to be something around the Dark Peak.
Perhaps the Finches next weekend.
Have you ever tried the Castle Cottage Tearooms in Oakham, very nice lunches there too.

I've done several Forum Rides that have started from Oakham railway station, theres some lovely places to cycle round there, I've never explored the town though.

It's not so much the killing as the birds being deterred from visiting.
Given that I've logged our birds for the BTO for years it doesn't appear to be a deterrent. Can't think off the top of my head the total number of bird species but it was well over the 30 mark.

Five hours until the Bank Holiday. The weather will decide if tomorrow we walk around Ladybower, or we trogg round Chatsworth house
If you go around the house have a look for a sculpture of a young lady wearing a veil. I think it is carved out of white marble, but it is carved in such a way that the veil looks see through.
