Maybe technically, but you can still use a £5, £10, £20 and probably £50 in places down south (it is now illegal/against some sort of rule to refuse these notes from Scotland/N.I./IOM/Channel Islands now apparently - They had to make a new law about 10 years ago now).

You can't use a £1 and '100, full stop though.

English shopkeepers don't appear to have been told about the rule/law......

On more than one occasion I've walked out of shops empty handed because they've refused to accept Scottish notes and I've refused to substitute English notes for the purchase.

I once bought a takeaway at a Chinese restaurant in South Wales using Scottish Pound notes...... Poor chap was a bit confused but he took the money eventually
