I've spent the last two hours stripping wallpaper, I've started on the other side of the bedroom, including another load of the strange glossy black lining paper, under two layers of woodchip, strange stuff, even with a lot of scoring with the scraper the steam from the stripper won't penetrate it.

What you do is work on one bit of paper with steam and a scraper until you get the edge to lift. Then you remove the 'plate' attachment from the end of the wall paper stripper steam hose. Next, grab the bit of paper you've managed to lift, and direct the end of the steam hose between the paper and the wall, while gently pulling the paper off the wall.

Two things to watch out for:
1. Wear gloves, there's a serious risk of getting scalded with hot steam
2. This method, although effective can be a bit extreme. I managed to loosen some plaster in a couple of places, so you need to take it easy, and be prepared to make good afterwards.
