Reports have the Trek 1.5 weighing 9.3 kg. or 20.5lb.
Adding on a full water bottle and a cage, it might come to 22.5lb
The 'Double' version ( the bike tested ) had a 53/39 to a 12 – 26 cassette.

Now my question is :- What gradient can this bike be 'struggled' up?

I'll give you a clue… "Try not to go up a road that has a single chevron on the OS pathfinder".

.

And the answer is:....It depends who's riding it ;)

Although I think your maths comes out at about 12% or something. ;)

Hi all,

So if I purchase a new MTB I will have two MTB's - but will paying £700+ give me something that is so much better than what I currently have I will never use my old bike again? I was thinking of keeping my old bike for going down muddy paths and general fun off road. Then the new bike would be more for on road and fitness with some off road use.

Hav you considered a Cross bike?

I have a Front suss mtb and a Specialized tricross.

The mtb does the muddy or technical stuff and the tricoss everything from Sportives & club runs to tow-path and forest trail.

That pretty much seems to match the ride profile you suggest.

I'm only now, after a number of sportives, considering a true road bike as well as the other 2.- but can i justify to SWMBO that i NEED a Van nicholas Yukon Titanium jobbie?
