Puzzle game procrastinator!
I introduced a younger colleague to cycling. At first he was so unfit that his attention was entirely taken up with trying to follow me. Eventually though, his fitness overtook mine and he was having to slow down for me on climbs. He never really enjoyed cycling unless he was going flat out so he got bored, and because he couldn't go flat out for longer than a couple of hours, he never got into doing long rides either. He just didn't enjoy cycling for its own sake. Mind you, he did enjoy clubbing, whereas I never did. Different things appeal to different people ...

Seriously, don't force yerself. Personally - if I was you - I wouldn't bother. Let us know how the tennis goes...
My legs are so used to going around in circles hour after hour after my ride that I might run to the ball...and just keep on running......Forest Gump style. Hawkshaw away tonight. I'll let you know how it goes. I hope the mind-numbing bike ride hasn't affected my court sense.

so if you don't like cycling, what do you do? I know, you sign up to a cycling forum and tell people you don't like cycling.

Tell you what - I hate tennis - are there any good tennis forums where I can waste my time trolling..??

I was wondering if anyone had any motivational ideas because although I dislike cycling, I do cycle. I agree, tennis isn't for everyone - people who lack skill/eye to ball coordination can cycle....or swim :-)

If you don't enjoy it, don't do it.

How about moutain biking? That has more of a skill side to it, unless you fancy tackling moutain passess and hairpin bends on a regular basis.

Wow fellas - I was hoping for some tips and advice on how to enjoy it - the theme appears to be pack it in if it isn't for you. It can't be that good if you can't sell it to someone who has a bike but doesn't like cycling very much. Thanks to those who suggested a few things though. I'm hoping I'll get some friends to come out on a ride to ease the boredom a bit. There is actually a lad on the 3rd team who's crap at tennis and he's just inherited a decent road bike. I'll see him at the club later and see if he's up for it.

Weather permitting (I don't ride in heavy rain) I will be at the millstone in Horwich at 8am Sunday for a ride through Horwich, up Belmont road and back past the blue lagoon. Not a long ride but a fair challenge. You are welcome to join us but we do set off on time (it's in the rules).

One word for me - Strava.

Though there are some who detest and mock people like me for recording and chasing numbers, it's this that really makes cycling for me. Watching my yearly mileage creep up. Watching my top speed getting better, watching my averages come higher, and my trip time come down. Chasing those ever elusive numbers, that once you get them, simply run further away and present another target!

We beat Hawkshaw 6.5 - 3.5 but I was by far the worst player on the team for the first time this season. I must have done something so mind-numbing today that's made me lose all my manual dexterity.

Cheers notthatjasonkenny. I could well be there. My mate at tennis decided not to ride his bike until winter if my performance on the tennis court can be so badly affected by leg spinning.

Don't force it, if you thought it was mind numbing either you did the wrong kind of ride or it's just not for you! What kind of bike did you buy (I smell a 2nd hand bargain?)

It's a Planet X with full Ultegra and Mavic Ksyrium Elite's (A mate got the parts and built it for me). I went up belmont and turned around and went back over to Rivington, up Chorley Old Road, down to Markland Hill, through Lostock, Along the A6 to Swinton, down back over the East Lancs, through Boothstown and Tyldesley to my mates house in Tyldesley.

I never realised until I read this thread just how mind numbingly boring and unskilled I am. I think I'll go and shoot myself!

Gary, don't do that, some of us are born to play drop shots, some of us are born to spin....and spin...and spin.
