Modern jeans are terrible. I need your help/advice.

There comes an age when you should appreciate certain sensibilities in clothing and your wardrobe should evolve accordingly.

It's time to put jean wearing behind you and embrace the beauty of the "hiking trouser" with side pocket - make sure it's big enough for your phone. Avoid the stretchy ones (unless it's only the waistband that stretches).

I find modern jeans seem much tighter on the waist than they used to be:whistle:
I stopped buying them about 30 years ago because of that problem!

I have lost over 30 kg (5 stone) since then so maybe I should try out a pair?

Stretchy black would be my choice, with roomy thighs, and a waistband actually located at waist height. Any suggestions?

struggle with jeans , standard fit i cant past my thighs
The reason I stopped wearing them. The legs got too narrow for the same waist size. Four sizes too big were when I could move in them. Meaning too much spare material hanging loose.
The last two pairs I tried buying never left the shop. At the insistence of the shop owner I tried on a pair that he said would fit. Came up the legs, but absolutely no movement possible. Bending one leg ripped them. The second two sizes larger split when I tried crouching down in them.
That was twenty years ago, not worn jeans since.

This thread needs Accy's input as CC's own snappy dresser.

Now this is one satorial thread where @Accy cyclist is of no use, unless someone somewhere makes jeans in tweed.

I haven't worn jeans for quite a few years now. I have some denim shorts, but they haven't been worn since summer last year. I did think about buying some Cordings jeans the other week, but I still have a pair of NEXT jeans which seem as good as the Cordings one, so If I ever fancy wearing jeans again I'll wear the Ink blue Next ones, but it's unlikely to happen as jeans were originally meant for manual work and being a gentleman of leisure I really shouldn't be seen to be associated with physical labour!! 🧐

Quite right Accy! A gentleman never lifts anything heavier than a telephone handset.

Indeed, one wouldn't want to be associated with something so frightfully vulgar would one?

For those who are saying they cannot get their cyclist's legs into jeans, what you need to look for are ones labelled Athletic Taper or something like that. Those are the only types of jeans I have found that are generous at the thigh while not looking stupidly wide at the calf at the same time.

For Levi's that is their 541 range, but the best ones I always used to get were those from Gap, which unfortunately are now only available online (or in certain larger Next stores).

Just found this thread

Personally I still wear jeans

but I need some new ones becuase modern ones seem to wear out after a year or so

but the main problem with them seems to be that every single pair I can find around here has
"added stretch"
now - firstly - stretch is not a thing that you can add - it is an action or verb

but also - I find that I can get some that fit
until they have been washed a few times when they start to loose the "stretch" on the waist band and default to the fully stretched length
but if I try to buy them at a smaller size then they start off too tight

In the old days I could wear Lee Cooper or Wrangler and they were a spcific size and that was it
and they fitted

now I can;t get any brand like that - did used to be able to get Wrangler at a cheap shop near the market but that has closed
and anyway - they had added "stretch" on them as well!!
