Weekend ride with a couple of mates. 42mile route up into the Peaks and home again, nominally training for a big ride later in the year. Looked at the forecast, looked at the skies. Shorts and jersey will be fine. Might be bit chilly on top I thought, but we'll be working hard(ish) and I'll warm back up. First hour was delightful Spring in the cheshire lanes, even a bit of sun now and then. Climb up the hills, nice and warm now. Start the descent back to manchester, a few drops in the air, yep, a bit chilly, not too bad. Downpour. Uh Oh. Long descent (no peddling) lots of wind chill. Now I'm cold. And still a hour's ride to get home. c-c-c-ooo--l-l-ldd-d.
I've never been so chilled in my life. Teeth chattering, blue lips, shivering violently cold. Riding was ok, but the moment I stopped (curse those red lights) I froze solid again. Took a good hour at home for the shivers to pass. And a pub lunch.
If I'd have taken my jacket though I'd have roasted at the start.
