Weekend ride with a couple of mates. 42mile route up into the Peaks and home again, nominally training for a big ride later in the year. Looked at the forecast, looked at the skies. Shorts and jersey will be fine. Might be bit chilly on top I thought, but we'll be working hard(ish) and I'll warm back up. First hour was delightful Spring in the cheshire lanes, even a bit of sun now and then. Climb up the hills, nice and warm now. Start the descent back to manchester, a few drops in the air, yep, a bit chilly, not too bad. Downpour. Uh Oh. Long descent (no peddling) lots of wind chill. Now I'm cold. And still a hour's ride to get home. c-c-c-ooo--l-l-ldd-d.

I've never been so chilled in my life. Teeth chattering, blue lips, shivering violently cold. Riding was ok, but the moment I stopped (curse those red lights) I froze solid again. Took a good hour at home for the shivers to pass. And a pub lunch.

If I'd have taken my jacket though I'd have roasted at the start.

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
Sometimes its better to have something and not need it rather than needing something and not having it. A bit like p******re repair kits and inner tubes.
You pay your money and make your choice.:okay:

been there before. Had an ultra light waterproof jacket in my had before the 2014 Dragon Ride, decided I didn't need it, would have made zero difference to my pocket or ride. Within two hours the heavens opened and I got a proper soaking. Kept cranking the pedals and managed to stay warm somehow - steam was coming off me I swear. I'm older and wiser now (and slower).

Its a tricky job trying to judge the weather at present, seems to depend which window you look out of ! I'm trying to work out if I can get a 2 hours ride in tonight, weather forecast says no, clouds say yes.

Made that mistake once. I remember thinking "I could actually die here". Only thing I could do was-head down and keep going. I don't think I will ever make that mistake again. Last week I was sooooo hot...........I took my thick under-shirt off and tied it around my waist

A Yorkshire saying......"no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothes.
I find my legs can live bare as long as I have my arm warmers and a gilet or light jacket in my pockets. Gloves are catching me out at the moment. Fingerless vs fingers? This means I am flipping from freezing numb to hot and sweaty and seem to be unable to call it right over the last few weeks.

Note to self: Take both this weekend on TDY sportive!
