I've always liked Friere and am happy to see him win this one again but as others have said I didn't think of him as a contender for this year. I think this is one of the nice thing about this race as it's so long and surprises can and do happen. Nearly 7 hours in the saddle and averaging over 40 Kph shows just how much these Pro's must work to keep fit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Because he's starting to get on a bit and he didn't show much sign of being in the kind of form to win MSR this year.

Flecha was up there for Sky, but Boasson-Hagen had stomach problems which knackered their main chance. Not sure how you can judge they were 'found out' - you think there's some underlying problem with the squad?

I watched the race for a couple of hours yesterday and really enjoyed it, i had seen on here who had one but still liked to watch any pro racing, really enjoyable and looked like a fantastic steady pace. Dissapointed to see wky not make a bigger move but hey ithink they have been doing really quite fantastic for there first season out there.

Anyone else read this? Looks like Cav's back wheel collapsed, but with the level of equipment the top pros use it seems almost unbelievable.

Nothing wrong with squad its the hype theyve got to live up too
