Wait! There's more! I'm also going to claim that when used properly, dry lube doesn't wash off, and works just fine in the wet, but without all the chainring prints on your leg!

Put bike in repair stand or hold it of the ground and turn the pedals.

If you can hear the noise of the chain over the tick of your Rolex wrist watch, then your chain cleaning/lubing method is inadequate. Give it a good spray with WD-40.

If you can hear the tick of your Rolex over the noise of the chain, open your Rolex and give the works a good spray with WD-40.*

*disclaimer - should you need to return your watch for repairs at some point in the not to distant future, do not tell Rolex that you sprayed it with WD-40.

what if i just have a very good brand new free wheel and i can only hear the loud clear crisp slicks of that?
