But a mangled helmet? That shows that it absorbed much of the impact which is exactly the job it was designed to do. The helmet absorbed impact energy and prevented that energy from being absorbed by my skull and brain. Elementary physics.

Or naive physics?

What do you understand about the rate of compression for the helmet and the effect on head injuries of that rate?
I've pulled you up on several examples of your diversion, misunderstanding and misrepesentation, and explained them clearly.

Why would I do that? I've not made that claim. (see- more evidence of your misrepresentation)

I've gone to some lengths to try to help you to understand what's necessary to consider when trying to compare the two groups.
Ah yes. The statistical comparison of pedestrians and cyclists is invalid because some pedestrians might make progress by throwing themselves head first forward onto the ground. Or some cyclists might be drunk. No evidence that these exist or make a difference respectively. Or that you can point to evidence of other population sub-groups that do make the comparison invalid. Just fluff and bluster.

( more evidence of you making things up and misrepresenting).

What claims of medical experience have I made?

You were saying?

If you want to provide evidence to support your claims please do. Until then this sub-thread is going nowhere and continued participation in it is pointless.
Here's where you get to use your noggin...

Compare the following example;

 1. DON'T WEAR A HELMET!!!! YOU'LL DIE!!!!
 2. There are some benefits to wearing a cycle helmet in some circumstances. Here's some information to help you understand the issue. And here's what we think, and why.
Any glaring differences that you can spot. Look hard now...
More avoiding the question. Where is your evidence that either of these extremes does not put people off cycling? Or that some real life promotion campaigns don't put people off cycling? Perhaps you should stop the wild speculations and think about starting to ground yourself in evidence.

ahhh, how I've missed these long rambling helmet debates. I'm sure we can all agree that we will never all agree. Sooo.....if you want to wear a helmet, wear one and don't force others to. If you don't want to wear one, don't, and don't force others not to.....there, is that simple enough?

... utter drivel ...

Your laboured and infantile story fails utterly, because no-one is trying to prevent people from wearing helmets.

Oh, and if you would be so kind as to explain why a cyclist who injures their head when not wearing a helmet is a fool, but a pedestrian who injures their head when not wearing a helmet isn't a fool, that would be lovely.

I think you'll find that most helmet threads are started, like this one, by someone ranting that cyclists should wear helmets and are idiots not to. I can't recall any thread starting with a rant not to wear a helmet and very very few instances of exhortations not to wear one cropping up in a thread.

Anyone dgot Kofi Annannannannann's cellphone number? I reckon we need a ceasefire for 24 hours ....

He's busy with Syria at the moment.

We could go to Boutros Boutros Gali instead.... So right for the UN that even his name is in duplicate....

Or we could get a time machine and go back for former UNSG Kurt Waldheim... I hear he had a good way of resolving local disputes. His work in the NDH in the early 40s is just one example.

I'll get my coat.

You may want to have another think about that.....

Or you could do us a link

If I did a link you might get the impression that I'd started a slightly trollish and not-very-convincing anti-helmet thread in the past few moments.

I wouldn't want that sort of impression to gain any credence, so I prefer not to provide a link.

My apologies.

Oh. I would say thank you.

Ah yes, a post in which I didn't say people shouldn't wear helmets and didn't say people who wore them were idiots. In fact nothing other than posting verbatim in the helmet section a news story of a ski helmet failing to prevent a head injury death in a simple skiing fall. As you were then and good hunting for a real link. ;)

shame... we missed the target of 26.2 pages by midnight... the Helemtdebatathon has failed.

if we'd have made the target, each member of Cycle Chat would have been obliged to donate one pound for every post of theirs in this Sport Relief thread.

On behalf of Cycle Chat, I'd like to thank all participants in the Sport Relief Helmetdebateathon 2012, and wish us the best of luck for the 2013 event.

in spite of failure, i think we all deserve a virtual pat on the proverbial back.
