I had that on my new MTB. Turned out that the post was fractionally too narrow. The shop gave me a better quality one, that was turned down rather than made out of tubing, and it's been fine.

I have not stripped any threads, snapped any bolts nor rounded off any Allen heads.

I tend not to either but not everyone has the same feel for mechanical things. That's why I'd recommend the torque wrench.
