I would carry on using them until you need to change them. I've got Mavic Yksion Comps on my winter bike (came with the wheels), and I will use them through the winter. You don't need tread on a road bike tyre.

Ps I had 23mm aksions on my bike too but I prefer 25mm so bought gp4000s. IMO a much nicer tire.
Ps: that could just be me attempting to justify swapping the tires before they were worn.

There's no secret: the harder and longer-wearing the rubber, the less it will grip especially in wet conditions. The same applies for car tyres - all car tyres would be sticky with a high silicon content like winter tyres, which grip miraculously on snow and ice, but hot weather wear would be compromised so manufacturers add sulphur to harden the rubber and achieve higher mileages.

For me tyres are too important a part of my bike to compromise; I don't mind a softer tyre that wears out 1000 miles sooner or gets 2 or 3 more punctures, as long as it rides and grips as well as a Veloflex.
