It's not so much that you don't know different, as that you don't know anything at all...

You can't fool me that easy

Over 400 posts and I still don't know what they were protesting about. Running red lights, blocking intersections, causing a nuisance, pissing off everyday members of the public, fighting with the police, deliberately ignoring the instructions of the police, doctoring video evidence, causing a forum I enjoy to be hijacked with their nonsense about reclaiming streets, not being able to give a clear indication of what they were doing, expecting us to just blindly agree with them. I can honestly say Critical Mass London is an embarrassment.
Nutters with no agenda. Fools with no leader. Idiots causing more animosity to normal everyday cyclists. Imagine how the other road users are going to treat cycle commuters on their way to work tomorrow. Ha ha ha ha I would hate to live in London and have to listen to your garbage every month you bunch of weirdo's.
You are just turning this whole thing into some sort of petty jealousy over some lane closures over the next two weeks. Boo fu**ing hoo. Grow up you idiotic childish di**heads.
I'm done with all this now Im gonna spend my time reading some worthwhile threads written by cyclists who actually make some real world effing sense! :banghead:
as long as you're happy.......

I'm not trying to convince you of anything. I'm posting pictures for your delectation. They are obviously going down well. And just so as no one thinks it's favouritism, here's one for Patrick:

As honesty is a bridge too far for Critical Mass..... I have moved on.

Hmm....... It seems like a grouping called Critical Manners is a good alternative to the BNP thugs like Critical Mass.
Critical Manners is for those who obey the traffic lights, want to improve the conditions for bike riders, cares about the environment and does not physically attack police officers and other hard working people. In other words; they are the excact opposite of the Critical Mass outing some days a.

Now, that is a cause well worth supporting. A local chapter may be set up and watch out for further announcements.

OK, on with the smiles again and the cheerful praise of a good Monday morning. :hyper:

so.......let's recap. 500 people go on a bike ride. The police tell them they can't cross the river - now that's an interesting one, because, as those of you that can read a map know there's an awful lot of London north of the river (not that I go there much....). One of them gets pepper sprayed long before they get to Stratford - in fact, before they cross the river. They didn't, as far as we know, get to any of the Zil lanes, because they were kettled in Stratford. The police then arrested 182 of them (including an electrician who was riding home) handcuff them and held them in a shed for twelve hours. They then release 179 without charge.

Sadly for those of you who've wound yourself up in to a complete tizz about this, there is still, even in these Olympian times, something called a trial in something called a court. Setting aside that our in-house forensic expert has already decided that the video evidence obtained by the cyclists has been doctored, it's a possibility that one, two, or three or more of those will be convicted. Then again, they might not. Whether they are or not, our Buckfast Boy (who believes it's a crime to be arrested) would have all cyclists swept from the streets of London by motorists outraged by this threat to the Olympics. The police, meanwhile, have issued a statement condemning CM for holding up traffic. Ah, yes. The last time I organised a ride of 350 we held up traffic for about ten minutes (to general applause, and to the greater good, not just because we raised a shedload of dough, but also when a pub fight broke out across the road, four of our lot, who were off-duty policemen, arrested the perp and then continued on their merry way to Brighton, but that's a different story). I'd suggest that kettling cyclists for two hours is probably a greater obstruction to traffic than just letting them pass by, but, hey, these are nervous times, and the new Commissioner has a mark to make, and, beside, the siren voices of CC would have these ghastly people locked up and the key thrown away........

So, as Nietzsche once said 'distrust all those in whom the urge to punish is strong'. Actually he went further and said 'although the most acute judges of witches and even witches themselves were convinced of the guilt of witchery, the guilt nevertheless was non-existent'. Germans, eh?

I'll sit back and wait to see how this pans out. What I am convinced of is that if people do not protest the privatisation of space, then we'll all be the losers. Even those who never leave their sofas.

Again, your account is in a severe conflict with the facts of the matter, Dellzeqq.

450'ish posts into this marathon of a thread..... Labelling me as Buckfast Boy amongst other stupidities is childish and the level you operate on. But you have no valid case and no defence for this thuggery commited under the name of CM. But your biggest flaw is that you are unable to answer the many valid questions raised by a lot of people here. Avoidance of the truth, childish name calling & slurs is therefore your only defence. I seriously pity those good people you have conned to believe that CM is a good cause.

450'ish posts in and here is where we stand and where it ends.

... but I wish you all the best in life, Dellzeqq.

There's a huge difference between peacefully protesting the rights of cyclists and deliberately aiming to disrupt a national event with many years effort and organisation in which I think we can take some pride.

"It would have only taken 10 minutes to let them pass" ... I can almost hear your reply being typed. Well Ok except that of course an event of this scale takes precision timing. Perhaps we should have asked Danny to make sure cyclists were represented in the actual event itself. Oh wait ...

I, contrary to belief, do support protest, and much prefer the protest to be non-violent. I took part in a protest in 2008 where 22,500 people protested. We informed the local authority of or march, route and timings. We marched, protested and came home with a satisfactory conclusion. There were 4 arrests, none of them were protesters - they were all local people arrested for public order offences. 22,500 is 45 times the number that rode on Friday, and none arrested. 500 ride and 182 are arrested?

CM at the last time of checking was a movement for cycle safety and, as Dell has so eloquently explained, has done immeasurable good over the last decade or so to improve cycle awareness.

The protest against the privatisation of public place - if reading between the lines what Friday's hijacked CM ride was about - is not a matter of cycle safety.

The questions still remain unanswered: why was the usual CM attendance swelled from the usual 100 to 500, and why were they so insistent on riding to Stratford when that location had never been visited (or even contemplated) before in the whole 15 year CM London history?
